This monster Volkswagen Scirocco was built by HEED-Auto in Sofia, Bulgaria. The car was originally purchased for 200 euros so the hood could be used on another Scirocco project. Thankfully the rest of the car wasn’t discarded but instead turned into something amazing.
The engine is made from a Nissan RB30 block with a Nissan RB26 head. The engine’s displacement has also been increased to 3.2 liters. Running on pure ethanol and a GTX45 turbocharger at 36.2 psi (2.5 bar) of boost, the engine produces 1,200 horsepower and 737 lb-ft (1,000 nm) of torque at the wheels (all four of them).
The tremendous power is routed through a custom AWD system consisting of a five-speed Liberty transmission with air shifter, a Quaife front diff, a Nissan Skyline transfer box and rear diff.
So far the car’s best time has been 8.181 seconds at 281.09 kph (174.6 mph) which was set last year. Since then the team has increased the power and dropped some weight with a fiberglass one-piece front. Although they haven’t broken their current E/T record they have set a new trap speed record of 287.84 kph (178.8 mph). These times are amazing considering the condition of the race surface. I really wish they would take it to a proper drag strip and see what it could do.

Nice memories, “Breaking the 8 sec barrier” was my first attempt of shooting an actual interview. It is quite obvious that I’m new at this 🙂
Everyone has to start somewhere. I think it is better than most would do starting off. I hope you keep it up.
Now they finally broke the 8 sec barrier and have official 7.973@282km/h
Thank you for updating us on the car’s new record. I will update the article.
