NWP Engineering took a 1992 Maxima SE and swapped in a VQ35DE from a 2002 Maxima. They kept the original automatic transmission. The current setup is producing 290 horsepower to the wheels and was able to set an all motor drag record.
The engine had the heads port and polished, intake ports matched, valves lapped, and combustion chambers polished. Intake manifold was ported/polished and mated to a smoothed out throttle body. Also several components were used from VQ35HR such as head gaskets, valve springs, and head bolts.
The power was put to the ground via some Mickey Thompson ET drag slicks on 15×8 Rota Slipstream wheels.
Weight was shaved by using a racing seat and removing bumper supports, sound deadening, carpet, spare tire, jack, 14 lb battery, muffler, AC, and alternator. The Maxima weighs 2600 lbs with driver.
The best 1/4 mile so far is a 12.058 @ 114.52 mph w/ 1.904 60′ at Coastal Plains Dragway in Jacksonville, NC on 4/9/10 using 20″ Slicks. This makes the car the current record holder for all motor Maxima.
