Steve Morris Engines debuted a custom quad-turbo 12.3 L (750.5 ci) V16 built for the Devel Sixteen supercar. The engine took two years to develop and over 2,000 man-hours to build. Everything on or in this engine is custom. The block, camshaft, and crank are all one-piece from a billet block. The engine (block and heads) is water jacketed and runs a five-stage dry sump oil system and custom water-to-air intercooler. To keep the engine “streetable” it uses a hydraulic roller camshaft.
Four 81 mm turbochargers were designed and built specifically for this engine. As you probably guessed this engine produces power like no other. The engine produced 3,000 horsepower and 2,400 lb-ft of torque on 20 psi of boost and 93 octane fuel. The engine maxed out they dyno at 4,500 horsepower and 3,500 lb-ft of torque running on 36 psi of boost and C16 race fuel.
The team is also planning to build a “race version” of this motor. First they will have to upgrade their dyno to handle over 4,500 horsepower. After that they will stick a solid roller camshaft inside and continue to raise the boost.
