Craig Gibson shared with us a recent video of his LSxSorento smoking the tires at Fatman’s Invasion burnout competition. The mid-sized SUV really impressed everyone there until a bearing cap went and allowed the driveshaft to destroy the transfer case. If you don’t remember from our previous article, Craig’s 2007 Kia Sorento runs a 6.0 L LY6 V8, 6L90E six-speed automatic transmission and Jeep NP231 transfer case. Full project stats below.

2007 Kia Sorento (stock engine imploded due to timing tensioner failure)

6.0 L LY6 V8 (w/VVT & w/out DOD) from a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
LS3 intake manifold assembly, fuel rails, injectors, with 90mm DBW throttle body
2010 Camaro Ls3 water pump (to clear t-body and VVT cover)
385 hp (287 kW) @ 5600 rpm
400 lb-ft (542 Nm) @ 4400 rpm

GM 6L90E six-speed automatic transmission (with tap shift)
Custom billet aluminum transmission/transfer case adapter by B&B Precision Products
Jeep NP231 transfer case
Custom drive shafts (Kia & Jeep u-joints are identical but length is custom)

LS2 GTO headers (modified for 3″ V-bands)
Dual 3″ exhaust
Magnaflow X-flow muffler

SpeeedHut gauge package (All FreedomCAN Series except for the Tachometer, it is a Revolution Series)

    Nice article and nice swap. Too bad the vertical video, though. At least, here the grays can leave their opinion… even if I’m feeling a little lonely!
